This retort pouch is built from a three-layer laminate: AlOx PET, PA, and RCPP. The AlOx PET layer provides an oxygen and moisture barrier without aluminium foil, so the pack can be metal-detected and is more transparent than foil laminates. PA adds puncture and flex-crack resistance, while the RCPP inner layer is a retort-grade sealant that withstands 121°C. The structure protects cooked and sterilised foods from oxygen, light, and moisture, maintaining shelf life without refrigeration.
Typical uses include ready meals, soups, stews, sauces, and pet food. The pouch runs on standard form-fill-seal or pre-made pouch filling lines. Sealing requires a retort-grade heat sealer; the seal must be free of contamination for a reliable closure. Options like a spout and cap suit liquid or semi-liquid products, while a tear notch helps opening. A zipper is possible but adds cost and is less common on retort packs. For recyclability, a mono-PE structure may be preferred, but it offers a lower oxygen barrier than this AlOx PET/PA/RCPP laminate, so it is not suitable for long shelf-life retort applications.
